Bridget Coggins

Bridget CogginsBridget L. Coggins is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research interests lie at the intersection of domestic conflict and international relations, including studies of secessionism, insurgency, terrorism, maritime piracy, and illicit trafficking. Coggins’ first book is Power Politics and State Formation in the 20th Century: The Dynamics of Recognition (Cambridge 2014). Two ongoing research projects of hers examine the international security consequences of state failure and rebels’ strategic use of diplomacy in war. Coggins’ work appears in Foreign Policy Magazine, International OrganizationJournal of Conflict ResolutionJournal of Global Security Studies, Journal of Peace Research, and at various university presses. Professor Coggins earned a PhD in political science at Ohio State University and a BA in international relations at the University of Minnesota. Coggins is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations (IAF 2013) and a U.S.-Korea Next Gen Scholar.
