Timothy D. Sisk

Timothy D. Sisk (George Washington University PhD, 1992) is Professor of International and Comparative Politics at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver, and a steering faculty member of the Sié Chéou Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy at the School. In early 2020, he will be a visiting Fulbright senior scholar at the Norwegian Nobel Institute.

His research, teaching, and policy-oriented work focuses on armed conflict and political violence together with understanding and evaluation of processes of conflict prevention, management, and peacebuilding in fragile and post-war contexts. Professor Sisk has conducted extensive research on the role of international and regional organizations, particularly the United Nations, in peace operations, peacemaking, and peacebuilding.  He is also an Associate Fellow of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy in Geneva, Switzerland; at the University of Denver, he also chairs the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the Protection of Human Subjects in Research.

Sisk’s latest single-authored scholarly book is Statebuilding: Consolidating Peace after Civil War (Polity, 2013). Other recent books for which he is co-editor are: Democratization in the 21st Century: Reviving Transitology, (with Mahmoud Ould-Mohammedou, Routledge), The Routledge Handbook of International Statebuilding (with David Chandler, 2013), and Between Terror and Tolerance: Religious Leaders, Conflict, and Peacemaking (Georgetown University Press, 2011).

Prior to joining the University of Denver in 1998, Sisk was a Program Officer and Research Scholar in the Grant Program of the United States Institute of Peace in Washington.
